Mondevàl Man
In 1,987 in Mondeval De Sora, at an altitude of 2,150 m above sea level, a Mesolithic burial site was found which brought to light remains that were in excellent condition.
In the shelter of a large boulder excavations unexpectedly revealed the skeleton of a hunter dating back to around 7,500 years ago along with a rich array of funerary objects.
It was a discovery of global proportions in the scientific field given the perfect state of preservation of the organic remains and especially due to the high altitude of the burial site.
All the remains discovered alongside many other testimonies to the presence of humans in this wonderful valley since ancient times can be admired in the Vittorino Cazzetta Museum in Selva di Cadore in Val Fiorentina.
